The Intel Extreme Masters World Championship at CeBIT 2013 from March 5-9 will feature the first ever global StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm tournament.
The world's best StarCraft II players will gather at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany to compete for a prize pool of $100,000 in the final of the Intel Extreme Masters' seventh season, just days before the official release of StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm on March 12.
The 24 participants have qualified for the final at events across the globe over the past few months. Fans all over the world will be able to benefit from the updated spectator UI as they watch their heroes bringing new strategies to the new battlefields. The tournament will also have the added benefit of the 'Recover Game' function.
Since its inception, the Intel Extreme Masters has celebrated Blizzard's involvement in eSports with tournaments for their games, including Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, World of Warcraft and StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. Just days before the launch of the latest installment in the StarCraft II saga, we're pleased to be continuing this tradition.
To celebrate the game's global release, Blizzard Entertainment will be holding
launch events around the world on the evening of March 11, including
the official European launch event in Versailles, France, which will be streamed live.
Attendees of these events will be able to meet famous players and commentators, as well as members of Blizzard's development team. The Intel Extreme Masters World Champion will receive an invitation to the European launch event in Versailles.
