Furthermore, five players local to Germany have been pre-signed up for the local spots based on their prior results in ESL competitions (Socke, ReaL, XlorD, ClouD and DBS). These players have applied for the invite slots and, in normal circumstances, would not have been rejected. The remaining places will be given out next week at the ESL Office in Cologne.

The first ever Open Bracket at the Intel Extreme Masters will be played out at the 15th of August at gamescom. The format will be four double-elimination brackets with eight players each. The WB and LB winner of each bracket will advance into the main tournament. In other words: only 8 players from the Open Bracket will make it into the actual tournament.

For future Intel Extreme Masters events, the open bracket spots will have up to 24 spaces for invited players and the remainder will be filled with players registered in person the day before the event.

The remaining five spots will be given out next week, on the 14th of August.

Players who are interested in signing up have to come to the ESL Office in Cologne and pay the sign-up fee of 50€.
