SK Telecom T1 win Cologne
17.12.2012 00:39

After three intense days, SK Telecom T1 came out victorious at Intel Extreme Masters Cologne. They beat Fnatic in the final and qualified for the World Championship 2013. Both teams had met on Day 1 in the group stage, where Fnatic had been victorious.

Sunday - The Grand Final

Following the group stage on the first two days, the four remaining teams met for the playoffs on Sunday. On Friday European top team Fnatic took the win in Group A, followed by SK Telecom T1. Little did they know, that they would meet in the final again.

Cologne 2012 on Flickr

SK Telecom started very strong, making five kills early on and continuing to dominate the first game until the very end. Down 1:0, Fnatic started the second comeback of the day. After a quick second game that ended with 12:4 kills in their favor, the score was tied. It all came down to the third and final game to decide the winner.

Picks & Bans

The Koreans did not back down, found their game again and in the end managed to come out victorious over Fnatic. With a final score of 2:1, SK Telecom T1 won the Intel Extreme Masters Cologne, qualified for the World Championship and take home $15,500.

Final Standings
1. SK Telecom T1
2. Fnatic
3-4. CJ Entus / MeetYourMakers

Friday & Saturday - The Groupstage

Saturday saw Group B with powerhouse CLG.EU, CJ Entus from Korea and the Intel Extreme Masters Singapore winner MeetYourMakers from Poland and ALTERNATE from Germany. Most people expected CLG.EU to advance to the playoffs, leaving the other spot to either CJ Entus or MYM, with ALTERNATE having only outsider chances. Things turned out to be quite different with the Polish dominating the group and winning it 3:0, followed by CJ Entus.

Group A
1. 3-0 Fnatic
2. 2-1 SK Telecom T1
3. 1-2 Millenium
4. 0-3 mousesports

Group B
1. 3-0 MeetYourMakers
2. 2-1 CJ Entus
3. 1-2 CLG.EU
4. 0-3 ALTERNATE

This meant that both semifinals were Europe vs. Korea. In the first Fnatic went down 0:1 quickly to the very aggressive early game of CJ Entus. They managed to equalize the score and took the win in a close and intense third game.

Semifinal #1 Fnatic 2:1 CJ Entus

Before the second semifinal, MYM looked like the stronger team after their excellent group performance and the fact, that the Korean team was founded just days before the event. But all that meant nothing as SK Telecom T1 went on to take down MYM with 2:0.

Semifinal #2 SK Telecom T1 2:0 MeetYourMakers

From the 14-16th of December the new ESL Arena was home to the Intel Extreme Masters Cologne. Eight League of Legends teams from Europe and Asia had to come to Germany to play for a spot at the World Championship 2013 and a total of $50,000. The season will continue in 2013 with stops in Katowice, Poland and Sao Paulo, Brazil.

[17:14] Fnatic proves to be too strong in the end, winning the match with 2:1 and advancing to the final. For CJ Entus their first Intel Extreme Masters adventure is over.

[16:51] After two short breaks due to network trouble, the game is now approaching the 25 minute mark. Fnatic has the gold lead and a xPeke playing an incredible strong Diana.

[16:14] Fnatic made the comeback and brought the score to 1:1. The third and deciding game will go live now.
