SK Telecom T1 win Cologne

After three intense days, SK Telecom T1 came out victorious at Intel Extreme Masters Cologne. They beat Fnatic in the final and qualified for the World Championship 2013. Both teams had met on Day 1 in the group stage, where Fnatic had been victorious.Sunday - The Grand FinalFollowing the group stage on the first two days, the four remaining teams met for the playoffs on Sunday. On Friday European top team Fnatic took the win in Group A, followed by SK Telecom T1. Little did they know, that they would meet in the final again.

SK Telecom started very strong, making five kills early on and continuing to dominate the first game until the very end. Down 1:0, Fnatic started the second comeback of the day. After a quick second game that ended with 12:4 kills in their favor, the score was tied. It all came down to the third and final game to decide the winner.

The Koreans did not back down, found their game again and in the end managed to come out victorious over Fnatic. With a final score of 2:1, SK Telecom T1 won the Intel Extreme Masters Cologne, qualified for the World Championship and take home $15,500.

Friday & Saturday - The GroupstageSaturday saw Group B with powerhouse CLG.EU, CJ Entus from Korea and the Intel Extreme Masters Singapore winner MeetYourMakers from Poland and ALTERNATE from Germany. Most people expected CLG.EU to advance to the playoffs, leaving the other spot to either CJ Entus or MYM, with ALTERNATE having only outsider chances. Things turned out to be quite different with the Polish dominating the group and winning it 3:0, followed by CJ Entus.

This meant that both semifinals were Europe vs. Korea. In the first Fnatic went down 0:1 quickly to the very aggressive early game of CJ Entus. They managed to equalize the score and took the win in a close and intense third game.

Before the second semifinal, MYM looked like the stronger team after their excellent group performance and the fact, that the Korean team was founded just days before the event. But all that meant nothing as SK Telecom T1 went on to take down MYM with 2:0.

From the 14-16th of December the new ESL Arena was home to the Intel Extreme Masters Cologne. Eight League of Legends teams from Europe and Asia had to come to Germany to play for a spot at the World Championship 2013 and a total of $50,000. The season will continue in 2013 with stops in Katowice, Poland and Sao Paulo, Brazil.

[22:48] SK Telecom T1 have done it. They are the champions of Cologne after beating Fnatic 2:1. This means they are qualified for the World Championship 2013 at CeBIT and take home $15,500. Congratulations to them.
[21:49] Fnatic make short work of SK Telecom T1, winning the game 12:4 and bringing the score to a 1:1 tie. Can the Euros make another comeback, like they did against CJ Entus or will SK Telecom T1 hit back? The answer will come on the third and final game of the tournament.
[21:32] The second game begins a lot more cautions. After 10 minutes, kills are still at 1:1. Miss Fortune was banned by Fnatic, after the strong performance of UandMe in the first game.
[20:56] SK Telecom T1 takes game one. For Fnatic the situation is now the same as it was earlier in the day against CJ Entus. Down one game, they now have to step it up in order to have a chance to win the event.
[20:44] Fnatic is fighting for their comeback in Game 1 of the Final. SK Telecom T1 had an incredibly strong start, with 5 quick kills. Especially UandMe on Miss Fortune is having a field day in this first round of the finals, currently sitting at 13 kills and 10 assists.
[18:56] SK Telecom T1 showing a much stronger game than in the group stage and take down MeetYourMakers with 2:0. They will meet Fnatic, to whom they lost in the group stage, in the final. For the new team that was formed just shortly before event, it is their first ever final appearence.
[18:07] A small surprise as SK Telecom T1 takes the first game against the so far unbeaten Poles from MYM. 1:0 for the newly formed Korean team in the Best-of-Three.
[17:53] The second semifinal between SK Telecom T1 from Korea and MeetYourMakers from Poland is live. 12 minutes in, the Koreans are leading 6:4 in kills. Reapered playing a very strong game on Wukong with 4 kills. The same applies to Czaru on Twisted Faith.
[17:14] Fnatic proves to be too strong in the end, winning the match with 2:1 and advancing to the final. For CJ Entus their first Intel Extreme Masters adventure is over.
[16:51] After two short breaks due to network trouble, the game is now approaching the 25 minute mark. Fnatic has the gold lead and a xPeke playing an incredible strong Diana.

The $50.000 League of Legends tournament at the Intel Extreme Masters Cologne, in the newly built ESL Arena, will be commentated by Joe Miller, ButButButILY, Deman, Zenon and Araneae.

Korean Qualifier concluded, two Korean teams in groups

The Korean teams CJ Entus and the newly formed ESG, which has been formed by former Azubu Blaze top lane player Reapered, have qualified through the Korean qualifier. ESG had overcome Team OP and CJ Entus to win the entire qualifier.
CJ Entus, placing second in the Korean qualifier, received the second Korean slot. The last remaining slot was given to the newly crowned German EPS champions under the banner of mousesports.Final GroupsCounter Logic Gaming EU, who were previously seeded into Group A, agreed to switch groups with one of the Korean teams, in order to avoid having both Korean teams in the same group.

Counter Logic Gaming EU will be replacing Taipei Assassins in Intel Extreme Masters Cologne.
Taipei Assassins are unble to participate due to health issues within their team.Updated GroupsTaipei Assassins had been seeded into Group A, where they would have met Eclypsia, Absolute Legends NA and Fnatic.
In their place is now CLG EU, which brings a third European team into the group.

Korean QualifierOne Korean slot is still open for the event and will be played out on Monday, December 10th.
The four teams ESG, Team OP, MVP White and CJ Entus are competing for the slot.

We have drawn the groups and finalized the schedule for Intel Extreme Masters Cologne, as the event is now merely a week away.
Sadly enough, a couple of replacements have had to be made, because neither Team FeaR, Team Dignitas, nor Taipei Assassins can participate.GroupsThe image below displays the confirmed participants and groups thus far.
Teams that have not been determined yet are the Korean slot, which is still open as the Korean qualifier will take place on Monday, 10th December; and the South East Asian slot, which has been freed up with Taipei Assassins resigning from the tournament due to players of the team having health issues and will be determined soon.

American and European Qualifiers coming to an end

Team Dignitas and Counter Logic Gaming Prime are the two American teams to successfully qualify for the Intel Extreme Masters Cologne. The final participants of the European crossrealm qualifier have also been determined.
Team Alternate will be directly seeded into the tournament, as they are the German national champions.
The three European teams CLG.EU, Moscow 5 and SK-Gaming, along with 5 others, will have their chance to get one of the three qualifying spots for the Intel Extreme Masters Cologne in the crossrealm qualifier on November 17th.American QualifierBoth Team Dignitas and Counter Logic Gaming Prime have made it through the final American qualifier where they had to overcome teams such as Team Curse, Team FeaR, Quantic and Absolute Legends NA.
They are the first two teams to qualify for the Intel Extreme Masters Cologne.

European QualifierThe qualification process for Europe is coming to an end as well. With the first qualifiers for this region starting on November 13th, teams had their chance to qualify for the final and most important cross realm qualifier.
Here, the three teams to qualify for the final event in Cologne, along with Team Alternate, will be determined among the eight teams that managed to grab a spot. The bracket can be found here.
